Introduction
Sport is never certain. Regardless of the odds and increasingly
data driven mathematical models, the outcomes all depend on the men and women
completing their task. Its what makes it so fascinating, why we pour our heart
and soul into chanting from the terraces, watching a car drive in a fancy
circle or spend hours analysing fantasy draft statistics.
This is a deep dive into the alternate realities, the
outcomes and legacy of how crucial moments within sporting events could have
shaped out had just one of the factors involved played out differently.
First each scenario will review what happened, then
speculate on how this could have changed before breaking down the potential
ramifications before confirming the ‘most likely’ conclusion.
This is not meant to be a serious study, rather a piece-by-piece
review, any thoughts are welcome as debate and discussion are the lifeblood of
a fandom, please though keep it polite and respectful, no one ever changes
their opinion by being shouted at!
Please enjoy.

F1 Power Rankings – Race 05 – China
Following the first sprint weekend of the season and with a second soon to follow, the debate once again raises its head about how best to implement them and whether to keep them all together. Tweaking them is not an admittance of defeat, it takes time to get these decisions right as F1 qualifying has…

F1 Power Rankings – Race 04 – Japan
Judging the changes Liberty Media have made to the sport would require a longer platform than here to weigh up, but give credit to them for whoever came up with holding the Japanese Grand Prix during the Cherry Blossom season, the visual images of the race with the trees fluttering in the background were absolutely…

F1 Power Rankings – Race 03 – Australia
At last. When a sport is advertising its season as its ‘longest ever’ in a positive manner, what it really needs is to keep people engaged less its length becomes a burden. Red Bull and Max Verstappen dominating every race was a serious concern after just two rounds but that streak is over after an…

F1 Power Rankings – Race 02 – Saudi Arabia
Well it was slightly more eventful than the first race. Owing to Lance Stroll’s crash (more on that below) we did have a few extra variables thrown in the mix compared to Bahrain and (shock!), Max didn’t lead for a few laps. Still its hard to shake the feeling that the season really needs a…

F1 Power Rankings – Race 01 Bahrain
Welcome to the F1 Power Rankings for the 2024 season. Power Rankings don’t work for many sports outside of the USA, the American divisional set up and either lack of head-to-head contests (NFL, MLS) or mass of head-to-head contests (NBA, MLB, NHL) creates an opportunity for an opinion that works in producing a competitive hierarchy.…
