Introduction

Sport is never certain. Regardless of the odds and increasingly
data driven mathematical models, the outcomes all depend on the men and women
completing their task. Its what makes it so fascinating, why we pour our heart
and soul into chanting from the terraces, watching a car drive in a fancy
circle or spend hours analysing fantasy draft statistics.

This is a deep dive into the alternate realities, the
outcomes and legacy of how crucial moments within sporting events could have
shaped out had just one of the factors involved played out differently.

First each scenario will review what happened, then
speculate on how this could have changed before breaking down the potential
ramifications before confirming the ‘most likely’ conclusion.

This is not meant to be a serious study, rather a piece-by-piece
review, any thoughts are welcome as debate and discussion are the lifeblood of
a fandom, please though keep it polite and respectful, no one ever changes
their opinion by being shouted at!

Please enjoy.

  • F1 Power Rankings – Race 14 – Belgium

Olympic fever is gripping the sporting world and with it, the conversation turns to its quadrennial ‘should there be a motorsport event in the games’ question. It isn’t an unfeasible suggestion, certainly sailing and to a degree equestrian events rely on the vessel as much as the pilot, a Formula E style car would keep…

  • F1 Power Rankings – Race 13 – Hungary

4th of August 2007, the date won’t hold much significance for many but for anyone interested in Formula 1 at this time, it was the date of qualifying for the 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix. There won’t be many working at McLaren who were around back then, certainly not in a senior position but the repercussions…

  • F1 Power Rankings – Race 12 – Great Britain

What a weekend for British Formula 1 fans. A top 3 lockout. All three of them leading for a stage and their hero, in the latter stages of his career picking up potentially one final glorious home victory (we can’t guarantee the Ferrari will be a contender next year, although that might not matter to…

  • F1 Power Rankings – Race 11 – Austria

So it begins. Formula 1 is built on rivalries, Hunt vs Lauda in 1976 arguably kickstarted the sport into the mainstream with spectators across the world fascinated by the engrossing personalities at the centre of the fight for a World Championship. Mansell vs Piquet, Schumacher vs Hill/Villeneuve/Hakkinen, Hamilton vs Rosberg and of course the ultimate…
