So it begins. Formula 1 is built on rivalries, Hunt vs Lauda in 1976 arguably kickstarted the sport into the mainstream with spectators across the world fascinated by the engrossing personalities at the centre of the fight for a World Championship.

Mansell vs Piquet, Schumacher vs Hill/Villeneuve/Hakkinen, Hamilton vs Rosberg and of course the ultimate rivalry, Senna vs Prost all created drama and showcased the unique factors that this sport has, namely that anything can happen (and it usually does as per M.Walker).

Of those rivalries listed above, several infamously started on good terms, Hamilton and Rosberg were childhood friends and even Senna and Prost were all laughing and joking in their early press conferences, the intensity and innate competitiveness of racing drivers fighting for wins and titles can sour even the strongest relationship.

Now it feels as if we’re entering the era of Max vs Lando, both drivers operating at a high level and suddenly recognising that the other is the biggest obstacle to them achieving success, what happened on Sunday was somewhat inevitable and yet it feels as if its only the beginning, roll on Silverstone.
